Sleep Disorder Rehabilitation

Have you been sleeping well recently?

Relevant epidemiological studies show that the incidence of sleep disorders is very high, and 27% of people in the world have various sleep disorders. Among them, the symptoms include inability falling asleep, always being sleepy, and poor sleep. These 3 common symptoms accounts for 61%, 52% and 38% of patients respectively. About 50% of the patients had two or more symptoms at the same time.

How to deal with chronic sleep disorder?

1, Drug therapy

Drug therapy takes effect quickly, but it is unrealistic to avoid adverse drug reactions completely. Therefore, the key point of drug therapy is to pay attention to the balance between curative effect and adverse reactions. Pay attention to the difference in individuals, and the principle of amount control. However, pregnant women, the elderly who take multiple drugs at the same time, and children are still not recommended to use drug for sleep problems.

2, Cognitive therapy

Psychotherapy is the first choice to treat insomnia, and cognitive behavioral therapy is the most used method. Its efficacy is better than drug treatment in the long term. The main purpose is to guide patients to have a correct assessment of the causes and possible consequences of insomnia. Cognitive therapy can help patients to change their bad cognitive process and sleep habits, relieve psychological pressure, and finally achieve effective change of sleep mode.

3, Restrictive therapy

Restrictive therapy is the most studied and useful method in the treatment of insomnia. The operation points are as follows:

1. Only when you feel sleepy can you go to bed, and If you can’t fall asleep, leave your bedroom;

2. Don’t do anything unrelated to sleep in bed;

3. No matter how much sleep you had last night, keep a regular wake-up time;

4. Avoid napping during the day.

Restrictive therapy is usually applied to patients with light sleep, but it should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy, bipolar disorder, and parasomnia.

4, Relaxation therapy

Relaxation therapy can help patients shift their attention, relax their body and mind, and avoid the influence of emotional anxiety at night on sleep. Hypnosis, progressive muscle relaxation training, abdominal breathing training, meditation, biofeedback, yoga, etc. are commonly used relaxation techniques.

5, Physical factor therapy

Physical factor therapy has less side effects and higher acceptance in patients, and it is a commonly used adjuvant treatment. Light therapy, biofeedback therapy and electrotherapy are clinical recommendations.

6, Kinesiotherapy

Kinesiotherapy can increase the blood flow of the brain which is conducive to the recovery of cerebral cortex function. In addition, it can relieve pressure, eliminate bad emotions, so as to regulate sleep.

Reports show that aerobic exercise has similar effects to hypnotics. However, at present, the research on exercise prescription for chronic insomnia is not in-depth, especially in the selection of exercise intensity, duration and so on, there is still a lack of unified reference index and standard. Therefore, the appropriate amount of exercise is one of the main uncertain factors of kinesiotherapy, which needs to be further explored.
